Mount Kenya’s Most Scenic Approach
The Mount Kenya Sirimon Route Trek is one of the most scenic and less crowded approaches to Mount Kenya, offering gentle gradients, wide trails, and excellent acclimatization. Approaching the mountain from the dry northern side, this route passes through montane forest, moorlands, and alpine zones, with breathtaking views of Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana. It is ideal for trekkers seeking a quieter, well-paced, and rewarding trekking experience on Africa’s second-highest mountain.
Early morning departure from Nairobi, driving to the Sirimon Gate on the northwest side of Mount Kenya. After registration, begin the trek through forest and moorland vegetation.
The hike is gradual and scenic, allowing the body to begin acclimatization naturally. Arrive at Old Moses Camp in the afternoon.
Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Old Moses Camp

Today’s trek ascends through wide alpine moorlands with spectacular views of the main peaks. The trail is steady and offers excellent acclimatization opportunities.
Arrive at Shipton’s Camp in the afternoon, located beneath the dramatic peaks of Batian and Nelion.

Overnight: Shipton’s Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Very early morning start for the summit attempt to Point Lenana, the trekking peak of Mount Kenya. Reach the summit around sunrise for incredible views across Kenya and, on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro.
After descending back to Shipton’s Camp, spend the afternoon resting and acclimatizing.

Overnight: Shipton’s Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Descend via the Sirimon Route back to the park gate, enjoying the changing landscapes on the way down. After lunch, drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon or evening.
