The Classic Route to Mount Kenya
The Mount Kenya Naro Moru Route is the oldest and most direct approach to Mount Kenya, making it a popular choice for trekkers with limited time. This route is known for its fast ascent, diverse vegetation zones, and iconic landscapes such as the Vertical Bog and Teleki Valley. While more demanding due to its steeper profile, the Naro Moru Route offers a rewarding and efficient trek to Point Lenana for fit and well-prepared hikers.
Depart Nairobi early in the morning and drive to Naro Moru Gate. After park registration, begin the trek through dense forest and bamboo zones toward Met Station.
Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Met Station Hut
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Ascend through moorlands and cross the famous Vertical Bog, one of the most challenging and memorable sections of Mount Kenya. Continue into the Teleki Valley with spectacular views of Batian and Nelion.
Hiking time: 6–7 hours
Overnight: Mackinder’s Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Early morning summit attempt to Point Lenana, reaching the peak around sunrise. After enjoying the views, descend back through Teleki Valley to Met Station.
Hiking time: 7–8 hours
Overnight: Met Station Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Descend through forested trails to the park gate. After lunch, drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
