The Mount Kenya Burguret Route is the most remote and least-used approach to Mount Kenya, offering an authentic wilderness trekking experience. Entering from the western side of the mountain, this route passes through dense rainforest, bamboo zones, wild river valleys, and untouched moorlands. Due to its remoteness and limited infrastructure, the Burguret Route is best suited for experienced trekkers looking for adventure, solitude, and a unique approach to Point Lenana.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Burguret Gate – Camp (2,400 m)

After breakfast in Arusha, you will depart for Tarangire National Park, a landscape famous for its giant baobab trees and large elephant herds. Spend the day on a game drive across the savannah, spotting wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, buffalo, and predators like lions and leopards. Bird lovers will be delighted by the park’s 500+ species. By evening, you’ll check into a comfortable lodge near Tarangire for dinner and overnight.

Today you’ll journey towards the legendary Serengeti National Park, driving through the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands before reaching the vast Serengeti plains. You’ll enjoy an afternoon game drive, searching for big cats and possibly witnessing the Great Migration (seasonal). Dinner and overnight at a lodge inside or near Serengeti.

Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti. Begin with an early morning game drive, the best time to spot predators on the move. Continue through different areas of the park, from river valleys to endless plains, encountering elephants, lions, cheetahs, zebras, and much more. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush before continuing with afternoon game drives. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and rest.

Traverse from the Burguret Valley into the Teleki Valley, joining the Naro Moru Route at Mackinder’s Camp beneath Batian and Nelion peaks.

Early morning summit attempt to Point Lenana. After enjoying the sunrise views, descend via the Sirimon Route to Old Moses Camp.

  • Hiking time: 7–8 hours

  • Overnight: Old Moses Camp

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Descend through moorland and forest to Sirimon Gate. After lunch, drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon or evening.

  • Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
