Morning: Begin Hike Through Rainforest
Start your trek into Kilimanjaro’s lush rainforest. The trail is alive with bird calls and sightings of monkeys leaping through the trees. The path is well-maintained but steadily ascends through shaded jungle.
Midday: Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700m)
After about 3–4 hours of hiking, you’ll reach Mandara Hut, where climbers spend their first night on the full trek. Rest, have your packed lunch, and take a short walk to Maundi Crater for sweeping views of northern Tanzania and, on clear days, Kenya.
Afternoon: Descent to Marangu Gate
Begin your descent down the same trail, enjoying a different perspective of the forest. The walk back takes around 2–3 hours.
Evening: Return to Arusha/Moshi
