The Mount Meru Miriakamba Route is the most popular route to the summit of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest mountain. Located within Arusha National Park, this trek offers a rare combination of wildlife encounters, lush forest trails, open heathlands, and dramatic crater views. The route provides excellent acclimatization and is often used as preparation for Mount Kilimanjaro.
After morning briefing in Arusha or Moshi, drive to Momella Gate inside Arusha National Park. Begin the trek through open grasslands and montane forest, accompanied by an armed ranger.
Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight: Miriakamba Hut
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Ascend through forest and moorland zones with panoramic views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone. The air becomes cooler as you approach Saddle Hut.

Very early morning start (around midnight) for the summit attempt to Socialist Peak. Reach the summit at sunrise for spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley. Descend back to Miriakamba Hut after a rest at Saddle Hut.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Descend through forest trails to Momella Gate. After lunch, drive back to Arusha, arriving in the afternoon.
