With the extra acclimatization day compared to the 6-day trek, this route has a higher summit success rate. From lush forest and heather to alpine desert and glaciers, the Rongai Route reveals a unique side of Kilimanjaro before you stand triumphantly at Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the Roof of Africa.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Meet our team at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Trek briefing, equipment check, and overnight stay.
Day 2: Rongai Gate – Simba Camp (2,600m)
Drive: 3–4 hrs | Hike: 3–4 hrs
Begin at Rongai Gate, trek through rainforest to Simba Camp.
Day 3: Simba Camp – Second Cave (3,450m) – Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)
Hike: 6–7 hrs
Walk through open moorland with views of Kibo Peak. Overnight at Kikelewa Camp.
Day 4: Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)
Hike: 4–5 hrs
Climb a steep trail to Mawenzi Tarn, below Mawenzi’s jagged peaks. Stunning campsite.
Day 5: Acclimatization at Mawenzi Tarn
Short hike: 2–3 hrs
Spend an extra day here for acclimatization, with optional short hikes.
Day 6: Mawenzi Tarn – Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Hike: 5–6 hrs
Cross the lunar desert between Mawenzi and Kibo, rest at Kibo Hut before summit push.
Day 7: Summit Day – Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Hike: 12–14 hrs
Early midnight start, trek to Gilman’s Point and onward to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Horombo Hut.
Day 8: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Departure
Hike: 5–6 hrs
Final trek through rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer to Moshi.
